Devlog 08

Bone hunters Devlog 8

Welcome to our 8th Devlog! This week marks the end of our 2nd Spring phase, which means we will now have a feature lock. We continued to work very hard on implementing all of the features that we felt were a necessity for our game. Next week we will be continuing our work by polishing all the features

ART:

In this final week of the production sprints, the animations and rigs were finished, ready for implementation inside the build. For the first time, the level actually started to look like a finished product. Most of the artists’ time was spent on level decoration as it needed some love to achieve the planned look. We also added a lot of new fun mesh, working out the small details of our level to make it look more lively.  A start scene was created as an intro of the game too, together with UI and HUD. Next to level decoration, final additional meshes were created and unwrapped to finalize this production stage of the game's development.

And last but not least, the shader was finalized, it may need some tweaking value-wise, but it’s already looking really nice.

We also now have a loading screen to make the player experience more intuitive

PROGRAMMING:

On the programming side of things there were a number of things added as well as improved on and finished. First of all Animations, all of the animations have been added. This proved to be quite the learning experience at the start, but after getting used to it was fairly straightforward. We’ve added the remaining RFX this week and the ones that were already in have been improved on. The jumping mechanic has also been improved upon, to make it easier and more straightforward for the players to use this mechanic to their advantage.

Most of the HUD has also been finalized, which makes the user experience overall a ton better. Start Screen and Character Select Screen have also been fully added, which really adds to the “Game” feeling. These proved to be a lot of work but we are very satisfied with the results. The Controls Screen is now also in the game to provide the players with a nice overview of the controls in our game.

As we worked hard to implement all of the very last features to our game, we were of course with our fair share of bugs. We’ve used playtesting as our main source to try and iron out every last one of these bugs and as well as use it to adjust some variables to our liking.
